Eye of Anaklia

“Eye of Anaklia” is an unfinished futuristic tower located on the Black Sea coast in the town of Anaklia, Georgia. Built in the early 2010s, it was conceived as part of the ambitious Lazika project, a government initiative to transform Anaklia into a major resort and commercial city.

The Anaklia Tower, often nicknamed the “Eye of Anaklia” for its eye-like appearance, was designed to serve as a landmark attraction, combining an observation platform, visitor facilities, and a navigational light overlooking the sea. With its angular steel framework and dramatic silhouette, the tower symbolized the country's aspirations for modernization and economic development through tourism and investment.

However, the project's future changed following a shift in political leadership. The Lazika development was abandoned before it could be completed, leaving many planned buildings unrealized. Although the tower itself was largely finished, it never fulfilled the role originally envisioned for it.

Today, the Anaklia Tower attracts photographers, architecture enthusiasts, and curious travelers. Those without a fear of heights or abandoned buildings can climb the spiral staircase to the observation deck, perhaps once intended to serve a restaurant. While no longer serving as the centerpiece of a new city, it has gained a different kind of significance: as a symbol of unrealized development and changing political priorities.
